• A landlord’s refusal to negotiate a fair lease extension premium forced the flat owner to make an application to the First Teir Tribunal (FTT).
• Despite the additional costs of making an application, the tenant succeeded with the help of myleasehold in securing a fair premium for the lease extension.

This case study is a reminder that landlords should receive a premium that they are entitled to but not necessarily what they want. As neither party can recover their costs in a tribunal there are occasions where flat owners should stand up for their rights and not pay excessive premiums.
